By Breaking Belize News Staff: Today, 8 Immigration officers reported ill at the Western border in Cayo.
According to reports, only 2 officers provided certified medical documentation.
Reports to Breaking Belize News indicate that prior to this, senior leadership within the Ministry engaged directly with officers at the port and when asked to share concerns, no grievances were raised, and no indication was given of dissatisfaction with leadership or working conditions.
Sources say the Ministry has not received any formal complaint regarding the Port Commander or any recent operational changes.
Allegedly, the pattern of absence stem from dissatisfaction with recent decisions by the Port Commander, including measures that have disrupted improper practices at the port.
But, the actions of Immigration officers compromises operations at the Western border especially during this time when there is a high influx of travelers.
Within Government Ministries and departments including the Ministry of Immigration, there are mechanisms in place for officers to address grievances in a structured and fair manner.
Officials say the Ministry is treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and will take appropriate action to safeguard its operations and uphold accountability.
