By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Dwayne Wade from BZ-Boyz retired from Elite racing in style, winning the Over 50 category of the 34th Annual KREM New Year’s Day Cycling Classic, held on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Wade, who has been on top of his game winning several races lately, dominated the race that started on the Philip Goldson Highway by the Belize-Mexico border and finished on Central American Boulevard in Belize City, earning a well-deserved victory to close of his competitive years at the top level.
“[I’m] going out on top in my final Elite race by winning the Masters 50+ prize. Officially retiring from Elite racing,” Wade told Breaking Belize News.
“I’ll just be doing the big Weekend Warriors and club classics.”
Robert Liam Stewart, competing unattached, claimed the second spot, while Roque Matus of M&M Engineering finished third.
The veterans of the Over 50 category proved that age is no barrier to competitive cycling excellence.
