By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-year-old Duane Dwight Wite will stand trial for murder when the matter is called up at the April session of the High Court.
Wite, a construction worker of Belize City, appeared unrepresented this afternoon before the Chief Magistrate for his Preliminary Inquiry (PI) in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Coby Ledlon.
At the conclusion of the PI, the Chief Magistrate committed Wite to stand trial in the High Court. He was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison pending his court date.
Ledlon was fatally shot on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, in broad daylight on Iguana Street in Belize City. Police reports indicate that at approximately 10:30 a.m., Ledlon was socializing with friends and standing in front of a gate when a gunman approached and fired two shots in his direction. One of the shots struck him in the head.
Ledlon was rushed to the hospital and admitted to a ward but succumbed to his injuries some 24 hours later, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
During today’s proceedings, the prosecutor submitted several witness statements and documentary exhibits which the Crown intends to rely on to prove the charge of murder against Wite.
The court was informed that on Friday, December 12, 2025, Wite was served with full disclosure comprising 73 pages of documents, 20 photographs, and four DVDs.
When asked whether he intended to call alibi witnesses, Wite provided the court with the names of four relatives.
He now awaits his murder trial at the upcoming April session of the High Court.
