By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Orange Walk police are investigating a family dispute in August Pine Ridge Village that left a 51 year old woman injured and a 21 year old man in custody.
A 26 year old woman reported to police on Sunday, November 1, that around 3:00pm she was washing a pigpen outside her home when her mother, who had been drinking alcohol with a male friend, approached her.
According to the report, the mother, who appeared to be under the influence, was holding a machete with a roughly 24 inch blade. The complainant said her mother raised the machete in front of her face in a chopping motion and swiped the tip across her face, causing her to fear for her life. She was not injured, and her mother eventually left.
Around 5:45pm, the mother allegedly returned, overturned the complainant’s table and began hitting her. Police say the mother placed a wooden chair on the woman’s stomach, then threw it at a table valued at $323, breaking it.
The complainant said her mother then raised another chair as if to hit her. She shielded her face, then heard the chair drop. When she opened her eyes, her mother was on the floor injured, and her 21 year old common law husband was standing at the door apologizing for what he had done.
The 21 year old man has been detained. The scene was processed and photographed, and a medico legal form was issued to the injured woman.
The matter remains under investigation.
