By Aaron Humes: Taxi operator Sydney Collins has been identified as the victim of a road traffic accident at Mile 22, George Price Highway outside Hattieville, Belize District, earlier this afternoon, Wednesday.
Around 1 p.m. according to reports, a driver traveling on the highway saw a green SUV approaching from his opposite direction. The vehicle reportedly drifted into the wrong lane then swerved off the road to avoid a collision, but it malfunctioned and flipped over.
An unknown number of passengers inside the SUV were injured while the driver, Collins, was said to have died on the spot after being crushed by the vehicle.
Police investigations continue and the remains of the vehicle are being held for examination.
