Drama Mama: 62-year-old woman charged with wounding daughter-in-law, granted $1,500 bail and ordered to stay away

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 62-year-old Belize City woman has been charged with wounding the mother of her grandchild following an alleged incident at her New Road residence earlier this month.

Vernice Jex, a retired resident of New Road, appeared before a Magistrate in Belize City on Friday, October 30, where she was charged with one count of wounding against her daughter-in-law.

The charge stems from an incident allegedly committed on October 4, 2026, at Jex’s residence.

Jex, who was represented by attorney Norman Rodriguez, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

During the proceedings, the Magistrate inquired about the relationship between Jex and the complainant. Jex explained that the woman is the mother of her son’s child, making her the grandmother of the woman’s child.

With no objection to bail, the Magistrate granted Jex bail of $1,500 plus one surety of the same amount.

However, strict conditions were imposed, including that Jex must not contact or interfere with her daughter-in-law and must remain at least 100 feet away from her. She was also ordered to attend all scheduled court appearances.

Jex is scheduled to return to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on January 5, 2027.

The circumstances surrounding the alleged altercation were not disclosed during the arraignment.
