By Aaron Humes: Dr Leroy Almendarez has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics. The announcement was made by the Office of the Prime Minister following the recommendation of Prime Minister John Briceño to the Governor General.
Dr Almendarez has held a number of economic-related posts including Director General for Foreign Trade, Executive Director of BELTRAIDE, and most recently CEO of the Social Security Board.
Dr Almendarez’s appointment is effective immediately and follows pertinent constitutional procedures outlined in section 107. As CEO, he will be tasked with overseeing the operations and strategic direction of the Ministry, which plays a critical role in managing Belize’s public utilities and energy sector.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence in Dr Almendarez’s ability to lead the Ministry during a time of important transformation and growth.
Dr Almendarez’s appointment along with that of Chester Williams in the Ministry of Constitution, Indigenous and Religious Affairs and Transport now completes the CEO cadre.
