By Aaron Humes: A shooting incident in Punta Gorda Town has claimed the lives of two men, identified as Luis Barillas, 24, and Derick Arnold, 43. The incident occurred on Saturday, February 7, around 8:05 p.m. at Queen Street, Punta Gorda Town.
According to police reports, the victims were socializing at Barillas’ residence when a slim-built, dark-complexioned man dressed in a grey sweater with a hoodie arrived, appearing to purchase illegal drugs. The suspect opened fire on Derick Arnold, then on Luis Barillas, fatally injuring both men.
Barillas was found lying face down in a pool of blood, while Arnold was pronounced deceased at the Punta Gorda Hospital. Both victims had multiple gunshot wounds. Nine expended shells were recovered from the scene.
Police investigations are ongoing.
