By Hugh O’Brien: As we enter the New Year, Belize is reeling with sadness, as two young men were shot and killed in the final hours of 2025.
The two men, identified as 22-year-old Uriluke Chavarria and 23-year-old Zion Samuels, were shot in Pomona village in the Stann Creek District.
Chavarria and Samuels were hanging out at a house in the village when shots were fired at them just around 11 pm.
The bodies of the two young men were transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where they were pronounced dead.
This incident is a separate shooting than the mass shooting which occurred earlier on New Years eve in Mango Creek resulting in multiple persons injured.
