Dorothy Menzies Childcare Center comes to Belmopan

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On January 25, 2024, the Government of Belize broke ground for the new location of the Dorothy Menzies Childcare Center in the Maya Mopan Area of the Capital City.

The new facility will include an administration building and two dormitories.

Features include a laundry and storage area, office spaces, a computer resource room, activity areas, and a playground.

The buildings will be built with access for differently abled persons.

Minister of Human Development, Dolores Balderamos Garcia says the relocation was necessary due to space constraints.

“We are very much invested in this but it wasn’t only our idea, it was the Caribbean Development Bank, Social Investment Fund, a lot of partners who saw the vision for the future that we need to relocate the Dorothy Menzies Child Care Center. As you know, where it is just off St Thomas Street in Belize City, it’s a very small space, it’s very cramped because of the number of children and of course we want a place where children can be free and run, have an outdoor facility, we could have sports facility, we could have a little garden as I said, so we are very much invested in this,” Minister Garcia said.

The BZ$2.6 million project is being funded by the Caribbean Development Bank and will be implemented by the Social Investment Fund.
