By Breaking Belize News Staff: Former UDP Deputy Leader, current Senator, and former Collet area representative Patrick Faber is now free of all criminal charges after two cases against him were dismissed last week in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Faber appeared before a magistrate in Court #3 on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, where one count of obstructing a police officer and one count of aggravated assault upon a police officer were dismissed.

The charges stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred on Bay Street in Belize City, during which police claimed that Faber obstructed a cop while the officer was carrying out his duties. He was also accused of committing aggravated assault against the officer during the encounter.

The dismissal of the matter reportedly went unnoticed until today, and the exact reason the charges were thrown out remains unclear.

Faber was represented in court by attorney Orson Elrington, also known as “OJ” Elrington.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at around 2:17 a.m., while two officers were conducting a police checkpoint near the Bel China Bridge.

Police claimed that a white pickup truck sped past the checkpoint, prompting officers to pursue the vehicle with lights and sirens activated. The vehicle eventually stopped on Buttonwood Bay Boulevard, where officers allegedly recognized the driver as Patrick Faber.

Police said checks revealed the pickup truck was unlicensed, and Faber reportedly told officers that his driver’s license was at his residence. Officers followed him to his Bay Street home, where he allegedly presented the license.

According to the report, while officers were issuing traffic violation tickets for the unlicensed vehicle and a defective light, Faber allegedly began recording the officer with his cellphone and repeatedly moved the phone close to the officer’s face despite being told to step back.

The cop claimed he felt threatened and uncomfortable and later reported the matter at the Queen Street Police Station, requesting court action against Faber.

Despite the allegations, the charges have now been dismissed, bringing the matter to an end.
