By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 19-year-old Belize City resident has been remanded to prison after being charged with abetment to commit aggravated assault in connection with an alleged gun incident last month.
Donnel Gerald Tillett, a construction worker, appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison in Court #6, where he was read a single charge of abetment to commit aggravated assault.
Prosecutors allege that on February 17, 2026, at the corner of George and South Streets in Belize City, Tillett purposely aided another man, Shamar Smith, in committing an aggravated assault by handing over a firearm that was allegedly used in the incident.
Tillett pleaded not guilty to the charge and told the court, “I have nothing to do with that case.”
However, Senior Magistrate Dennison explained that because the offense allegedly involved the use of a firearm and falls under Section 16 of the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act, the court could not grant bail.
Tillett was therefore remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 6, 2026.
The charge is linked to an alleged shooting incident involving 20-year-old Shamar Smith, who was previously arraigned on February 20, 2026, for aggravated assault with a firearm against Devin Garcia.
