By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 37-year-old Ladyville man accused of threatening his common-law wife with a firearm during a domestic dispute walked free on Monday after the charge against him was dismissed.
Alfred Elijah Bonner, a security guard residing at #368 Los Lagos, appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #3 to face a single charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. The charge stemmed from an incident involving his common-law wife, 31-year-old Zinga Monique Ferguson, who lives at the same address.
Ferguson took the stand and requested no further court action against Bonner, citing the emotional toll on their four-year-old child, who “asks for him every day.”
In response to Ferguson’s request, the prosecution offered no further evidence, leading the Senior Magistrate to withdraw the charge and release Bonner.
Bonner’s case highlights the serious nature of firearm-related offenses in Belize, which often result in automatic remand to the Belize Central Prison. However, he avoided such a fate due to Ferguson’s decision to drop the case.
Both Bonner and Ferguson continue to reside at the same Los Lagos address.
