Development of Belize’s First National Rural Development strategy underway

By Zoila Palma: The Ministry of Rural Transformation, with support from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), has begun developing Belize’s first National Rural Development Strategy (NRDS).

The initiative is being guided by consultants from ClioDinamica, who are assessing the constraints and challenges facing rural communities across the country.

As part of the process, the team has already engaged with key stakeholders, including government agencies and the Belize Chamber of Commerce, and has started visits to rural areas.

Local and regional consultations are also underway to gather input directly from residents.

Once completed, the NRDS will serve as a roadmap to guide investments and interventions aimed at sustainably transforming rural communities, ensuring inclusive growth and long-term development.
