By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Derrick Chavarria of the G-Flow Cycling Team won the 100-mile 44th Annual Westrac Belmopan Cycling Classic, organized by the Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB), on Sunday, March 16, 2025, delivering an exceptional performance in the Open Elite category.
His teammate Jyven Gonzalez secured second place, while James Alford of Santino’s Elite claimed third in the race that started out in Belize City, headed to Belmopan, and returned to the Old Capital.
The 44th Annual Belmopan Cycling Classic, which brought together cyclists from across Belize to compete in various categories, serves as a precursor to Belize’s most prestigious and traditional race, the Holy Saturday Cross Country.
The Open Women category saw Francine Gigli of the Lovell Cycling Team take first place, with Gabrielle Lovell, also of the Lovell Cycling Team, securing second, and Norma Nunez of Haulover Punishers finishing third.
For the Junior & Youth Women, Lianni Choto of Troyer Treats turned out as the winner, with Irene Baki of William Racing Development and Kelsi Castillo (unattached) taking second and third places, respectively.
In the Men’s Junior division, Jaheem Lewis of the Valvoline Cycling Team took the top spot, followed by Ahmaad Cherrington and Devyn Major, both from the G-Flow Cycling Team.
Cherrington also excelled in the Men’s Youth category, claiming first place. Johan Choto of Chavarria Cycling Club and Jamaal Tablada Jr. (unattached) rounded out the top three.
The Masters category was led by Byron Pope of A. Mahler DIGI Alliance, with Jairo Campos of Wateva Boyz and Kenroy ‘Smokes’ Gladden of SPD Cycling Team finishing second and third, respectively.
In the Masters 40+ division, Gladden secured first place, followed by Gregory Lovell of the Lovell Cycling Team and Ivan Samuel Vallecillo of Santino’s Elite.
The Masters 50+ category saw Robert Liam Stewart (unattached) take the top spot, with Roque Matus of M&M Engineering in second place.
