Press Release

The Department of Transport (DOT) announced the reactivation of national enforcement efforts aimed to address the growing issue of the improper use of motorcycles on Belize’s roadways.

In addition to the noise nuisance, the Department has observed the concerning decline in the use of protective motorcycles helmets, carrying of excess passengers and other serious infractions of traffic laws.

The San Ignacio/Santa Elena Town Council in collaboration with the Department of Transport and the Police Department will be conducting targeted national enforcement operations. These operations will include on-the-spot inspections of motorcycles to ensure compliance with legal standards for roadworthiness, noise control and rider safety.

Motorcycles found in violation of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act will be impounded, and the owners or operators will be sanctioned in accordance with the law.
