By Zoila Palma: Today, the Department of the Environment (DOE), under the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, announced the appointment of 9 Authorized Officers in Placencia to issue violation tickets for littering offences under Belize’s existing legislation.
The DOE thanked Warren Garbutt, Brice Dial, Sheldon Lopez, Conrad Villanueva, Christine Small, Henry Hamilton, Charles Westby Jr., Edwin Westby, and Naomi Anderson for stepping forward to serve their community and protect Belize’s environment.
The DOE says that this marks an important step in the implementation of the National Anti-Littering Campaign, which aims to reduce visible litter in key areas of Belize by 30% within two years.
The Authorized Officers will support the enforcement of littering laws while promoting greater public awareness, accountability, and proper waste disposal.
The Department says that this is part of a broader national initiative through which additional littering officers will be trained and authorized across the country.
