By Aaron Humes: A double murder occurred on Thursday, December 11, at approximately 7:00 p.m. near Mile 40 on the Hummingbird Highway. Police responded to a robbery report and found a Sarita truck parked with its windows up and engine off. The vehicle’s cash storage area was empty.

Further investigation led police to a nearby feeder road, where they discovered the bodies of two men. They were identified as Raynard Raymond Garbutt, 22, from San Ignacio Town, and Robert Alexander Crawford, 43, from Cayo. Both victims had apparent gunshot wounds to the head.

The police investigation suggests that the crime occurred between 3:48 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., based on GPS tracking data from the truck. Evidence collected at the scene includes a GAT 16×6 expended shell and an S&B live round.

The bodies were taken to the Western Regional Hospital, where they were pronounced dead, and later transported to the San Ignacio Morgue for post-mortem examination. The motive behind the robbery and murder is currently unknown, and police are seeking information from the public to aid in their investigation.
