By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The defending national champions Georgetown Technical High School Egrets return to the National Secondary Schools Sports Association (NSSSA) Girls Football Championship this Friday and Saturday at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City with one clear mission — defend their crown.
The Egrets lifted last year’s national title with a 1–0 victory over Sacred Heart College, powered by a 36th‑minute strike from Tamisha Moore. They now arrive in Belize City with an even stronger, more experienced squad, anchored by players who already compete at the highest levels of Belizean football.
National‑team leadership at the heart of the Egrets
Georgetown Technical are captained by Kenya Perez, a standout midfielder who plays for the Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) champions and is also a member of the Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT). Her leadership and composure in midfield make her one of the most influential players in the tournament.
She is joined by fellow national‑team talents:
- Jolene Aranda – PWLB player, Belize U17 Women’s National Team midfielder, and senior BWNT squad member
- Kiana Lewis – PWLB player and U17 BWNT representative
This core gives the Egrets a level of maturity and match experience rarely seen at the high‑school level.
Mt. Carmel High School (West) bring First Division momentum
Western champions Mt. Carmel High School enter nationals in excellent form, having opened their Cayo First Division Championship campaign last Sunday with a commanding 6–0 win over Eden SDA High School.
Belize High School of Agriculture (North)
BHSA arrive with a disciplined, well‑structured squad that has shown consistency throughout the Northern Region tournament. They also feature Betsy Perez, a standout who competes in senior‑level First Division football — experience that adds maturity and composure to the Northern champions’ lineup.
EP Yorke High School (Central)
Central champions EP Yorke High School enter nationals for the first time after a historic CSSSA title run powered by MVP Jeniyah Welch, top scorer LiAudra Graham, and Best Goalkeeper Amarqua Arnold. Their momentum and defensive discipline make them a dangerous newcomer.
A national championship with unprecedented talent
With multiple players already competing in First Division, the Premier Women’s League of Belize, and representing Belize at the U17 and Senior Women’s National Team levels, this year’s NSSSA Girls Championship features one of the strongest talent pools in recent memory.
The Egrets arrive as defending champions — but the challengers are stronger than ever.
