Deadly toll on national roads continues: one dead and two injured after collision near Tubal Trade School

By Aaron Humes: A father of two is dead and two other persons are hospitalized, one in critical condition, after their vehicles met with devastating consequences early on Saturday morning.

According to ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer, responding officers found a Ford Explorer and Ford Escape, both heavily damaged. The Escape was being driven by Darnell (Darynl) Humes while Eric Tillett drove the Explorer, accompanied by Laura Budna.

ASP Smith relayed the investigators’ account of what may have happened: “A review of the scene of the accident suggests that Humes who was on board the Ford Escape, was traveling from the direction of Belize City to Orange Walk and the other vehicle in opposite direction. Due to the fact that the collision occurred in the left lane when heading in another direction, it is suspected that the Ford Escape veered into the other lane resulting in the collision.”

Tillett remains in stable condition while Budna is in critical condition. A toxicology report will be conducted on Humes’ body to determine if he had been using alcohol or drugs prior to the crash, but police notably found a crate and bottles of alcoholic beverages inside the Explorer, though no signs of any usage. Investigations continue.
