By Zoila Palma: DC Emmerth Michael attached to the Mobile Interdiction Unit, brought holiday cheer to a single mother and her children in San Ignacio this Christmas, providing much-needed assistance in a gesture rooted in personal experience and compassion.
Speaking to Breaking Belize News (BBN), DC Emmerth said he was deeply moved by the woman’s story because it closely mirrored his own upbringing.
“Being raised by a single mother myself, I remember the struggles my mom faced,” he shared, noting that those early experiences continue to shape his desire to give back.
Reflecting on his childhood, he recalled, “I remember being young and my mother used to give me and my brothers the last amount of food and say, ‘I full papi unu eat,’ but I knew she didn’t eat.”
DC Emmerth explained that witnessing those sacrifices firsthand gave him a strong sense of empathy for single mothers.
“I was always by her side so I saw it all firsthand, so I feel for the struggling single mothers and we just want them to feel appreciated,” he said.
He described the recipient, Miss Acosta, as a dedicated parent doing her best under difficult circumstances.
“Miss Acosta is a hardworking single mother who works hard for her kids every day, but there is only so much a single mother can do on her own,” he added.
With support from friends and well-wishers, DC Emmerth and his team delivered $400 worth of groceries along with a brand-new stove and gas tank, just in time for the holidays.
“With the help of some good people, we managed to deliver $400 worth of groceries and a brand-new stove and gas tank so she can cook for her kids this Christmas,” he said.
