The Museum of Contemporary Art [Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Puerto Rico (MAC)] and the “Tiznando el país” Project present “TRAZOS: Homenaje en movimiento vivo a Awilda Sterling Duprey” [Trazos—A Living Motion Tribute to Awilda Sterling Duprey] on September 11, 2025, at 7:00pm, at the Theater of the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras (UPR-RP).

To celebrate dancer, choreographer, and artist Awilda Sterling Duprey’s vast contributions to the art scene in Puerto Rico and around the world, the evening will center on the tribute piece “Las Juntas,” directed by her fellow performance artist, educator, and choreographer Awilda Rodríguez Lora. [This event is free and open to the public with reservations. See below.]

Description (from “Tiznando el país” via museomacpr): In this one-time special performance, we invite you to be part of a collective offering of love, in recognition and celebration of a monumental woman who has shaped more than five decades of Afro-Caribbean art.

Awilda Sterling Duprey is a painter, dancer, performer, educator, and visionary. From Barrio Obrero in Santurce to international stages, she has turned the body into a tool of resistance, jazz into an extension of the soul, and the stroke into an act of memory.

The evening will feature a special presentation of “Las Juntas,” a tribute piece directed by artist, teacher, and producer Awilda Rodríguez Lora, born from intergenerational recognition and from dance as a language of care, strength, and freedom. In addition, poetic and visual interventions will accompany this shared dream in motion.
