By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 69-year-old Belize City man will have to pay $205 to the court after being convicted for possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.
Phillip McDonald, appeared unrepresented before a Belize City Magistrate earlier this week and pleaded guilty to the charge after police found him with a four-inch metal crack pipe. It was McDonald’s first drug-related offense.
In consideration of his guilty plea, the Magistrate imposed a non-custodial sentence — a $200 fine plus a $5 court cost — which McDonald must pay by December 15, 2025, or face one month in prison if he defaults.
On Monday, November 3, 2025, around 9:30 a.m., police on patrol in Taylor’s Alley spotted McDonald sitting in a sofa chair at the back of a yard. Officers noticed a shiny object about three feet away, which turned out to be a silver metal pipe measuring approximately four inches long.
The item was suspected to be used for smoking crack cocaine. McDonald was informed of the offense, detained, and later charged with possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.
This marks his first conviction for a drug-related offense.
