By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cycling Federation of Belize is calling on the cycling community and supporters to pray for the recovery of Adrian Williams, a member of the Wateva Boyz cycling team, who survived a horrific accident on Wednesday, April 28, 2025. Williams was involved in a terrifying crash while accompanying a driver on Frank’s Eddy Road, an experience that left him battered but miraculously alive.

“I was accompanying a new driver on Frank’s Eddy Road when the dump truck we were in, fully loaded with material, suffered total brake failure. Despite our efforts—gearing down, pulling the emergency brake—nothing worked, ” Williams said, recounting the moment his life changed.

“We had no choice but to abandon the truck,” Williams recalled. His driver managed to escape, but as Williams tried to exit through the passenger door, the latch failed. Time was running out, and before he could reach the driver’s side, the truck crashed into a ditch.

“When I regained consciousness, I realized that my head was being pinned between the dashboard and the back end of the cab. I was unable to move.”

People passing by in their vehicles stopped to see what had happened, some stepping forward to help. They tried desperately to free Williams, but their efforts failed—his head was trapped between two pieces of metal.

“Many attempts were made as they were trying to get to me and pulling me out of the jam but all failed because my head was being squished between 2 pieces of metal. One of them then said that they really can’t take me out and they all gave up,” Williams remembered.

Williams, still struggling to breathe, realized he was drowning in his own blood. His broken nose drained into his mouth, forcing him to swallow as he fought for air. Then, he reached a devastating conclusion.

“I gave up. I stopped fighting. I prayed—not to be rescued—but for God to take me where I was meant to go. I asked for forgiveness and prepared for what felt like my last breath.”

Then, in a moment Williams describes as miraculous, something happened.

“God set me free. My head slipped out of its stuck position without even trying.”

Hope surged through him. He shouted for help again, and this time, the people around him were able to pull him free. But as relief set in, so did the overwhelming pain. His shoulder was dislocated, his eyes swollen shut, and he was rushed to Western Regional Hospital, where doctors stabilized him. He was diagnosed with multiple skull fractures, a broken nose, a broken cheekbone, a broken eye socket, and a dislocated shoulder.

“But I am alive,” Williams said.

Now, his road to recovery begins. Though the journey will be long—more mental than physical, he admits—he remains grateful.

“I’m grateful to be here to write this message and give thanks to God first as he provided me with a miracle and all my family, friends and medical team as they supported me in my weakest moment, my cycling team for giving me words of encouragement and strength. For God knows I needed it. I have never felt so vulnerable in life until this moment,” Williams stated.

“Life is precious, God is real, and I am grateful,” he concluded.

The Cycling Federation of Belize has called on the cycling community to join in prayer for Adrian Williams as he continues his journey to recovery. His experience is not just a story of survival—it’s a story that highlights the fragility of life, the strength of faith, and the unwavering support of Belize’s cycling family.
