By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Cory Williams of the Miami Blazers once again proved untouchable on the national stage, defending his crown at the 25th Elite National Individual Time Trial Championship hosted Sunday morning by the Cycling Federation of Belize.
Racing along the 20-mile stretch of the Burrell Boom Road, Williams displayed his strength and stamina, stopping the clock at 42:27 to claim the top spot in the Elite Men’s field. It was a commanding performance that follows up his 2024 victory, when he blazed through a shorter 10-mile course on the John Smith Road in 20 minutes flat—edging out rivals Oscar Quiroz and Carlton Robinson.
This time around, G-Flow Cycling Team’s Jyven Gonzalez came closest, but Williams maintained an emphatic lead of over three minutes, firmly asserting his dominance in consecutive championships. Teammate Eric Trapp rounded out the podium in third, registering a solid 46:48 on the clock.
Other top contenders included Giovanni Lovell and Hollis Baptist, representing Lovell Cycling Club and G-Flow respectively, both of whom crossed the line within the top five.
The event tested riders’ endurance and discipline, with each cyclist racing solo against the clock. As the first of two championship events, the ITT set the tone for what promises to be an intense contest across all divisions.
