By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cycling Federation of Belize (CFB) and the cycling community are mourning the sudden passing of Wilbert Banks who was gunned down on Thursday.
“This Cycling Federation of Belize joins the cycling community in grieving the unexpected loss of Wilbert “Yellow” Banks,” the CFB said in a social media post early on Saturday.
“We are really shocked and devastated to learn of his untimely passing. We express our deepest and sincere condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and the cycling community. May he sleep in peace.”
“This is really hard to accept!” Andrew Ordonez wrote in a social media post.
“Banks is like a son to me and he will be very hard to replace! We will always love and miss you! This is a tough blow for the cycling community! Condolences to his entire family and the entire Ordonez Bike Shop Belize family! May his soul RIP. Wilbert Banks”
Calling for a ‘stop the violence in Belize’, the organizers are inviting all cyclists, supporters, and fans to join them a ride in honour of Banks, and Banks brother Kadeem and Edison Usher who passed to years ago after suffering a motorcycle while enroute to San Ignacio to live stream the 2022 Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic.
