By Zoila Palma: A growing number of primary and secondary schools across Belize are implementing dress codes for parents and other adults entering their campuses, asking visitors to dress appropriately while on school grounds.
The guidelines vary by school, but commonly discourage attire such as crop tops, tank tops, very short pants or shorts, and ripped or cut-up jeans.
Parents are instead being encouraged to wear more modest and appropriate clothing when visiting schools for meetings, dropping off or picking up children, attending activities, or conducting school business.
School administrators say the guidelines are intended to promote a respectful and appropriate environment on campus.
As more schools introduce or reinforce these expectations, parents are being encouraged to familiarize themselves with their respective school’s dress code before entering the campus.
