Wegner (Department of Literary, Cultural, and Communications Studies at UWI St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago), Shivanee Ramlochan will be the first writer in the series Critical Caribbean Conversations. The event will take place at the University of the West Indies-St Augustine, Alma Jordan Library, 3rd Floor, AV Room, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
Description: Critical Caribbean Conversations is a series inviting renowned artists, writers, and intellectuals to present their work and engage in discussions concerning important contemporary questions and challenges.
On 12th February 2026, the series will open with the poet, journalist, and critic Shivanee Ramlochan, author of the bestselling poetry collection Everyone Knows I am a Haunting (Peepal Tree Press, 2017). Ramlochan will offer a reading of published and hitherto unpublished work in order to speak to the question of contemporary Caribbean poetry. Following the lecture, Ramlochan will welcome questions from the audience to engage a wider critical conversation.
