By Horace Palacio: A police officer attached to Hattieville will be criminally charged after a disturbing confrontation with a transport officer, captured on video along the Phillip Goldson Highway.
According to the Public Service Union (PSU), the incident occurred about 10 days ago and showed the police officer, allegedly intoxicated and in civilian clothing, using aggressive and profane language toward the transport officer. The PSU applauded the transport officer’s professionalism, crediting it with preventing the situation from spiraling out of control.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams confirmed that the Professional Standards Branch has concluded its investigation and that the officer will be charged for aggravated assault under the amended Summary Jurisdiction (Offences) Act. The officer has already been issued a notice of complaint and will be placed on interdiction pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
The PSU has called for full transparency, urging the police department to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves to maintain public confidence in law enforcement.
