By Aaron Humes: Ladyville resident Henry Pook, 41, pleaded guilty to possession of a single gram of crack cocaine that he hurriedly tried to get rid of while avoiding police.

Pook admitted that while the drug was not directly found on him, he bought it for $20 and intended to use it when the police spied him. He claimed to be a user but not a ‘crack head’ and that he would insert the cocaine inside a cigarette and smoke it for “energy” to work.

Facing a fine of as much as $10,000 minimum, the Magistrate fined him $4,000 less a 1/3 discount for his guilty plea, leaving $2,680 and court costs due by February 28, 2025. In default he would serve two years in prison.

However, Pook was remanded because he owed prior fines to the court and will either serve the time out there or come up with the money to pay. The drugs were also ordered to be destroyed.
