By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): An early morning drive turned dangerous Thursday after a pickup truck collided with a roaming cow along the Philip Goldson Highway.

Police say the incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. between the Tower Hill Bridge and the Santa Marta Junction. Officers responding to the scene met a 54-year-old transport officer who reported that he was heading toward Carmelita Village when a cow suddenly entered his lane.

Unable to avoid the animal, the driver struck the cow, causing damage to his grey Dodge Ram pickup. Police confirmed that the driver was properly licensed and insured, and his vehicle documents were up to date.

The cow, which was tagged, was traced to its owner, a farmer from Carmelita Village. Police say both parties reached an agreement, with the owner accepting responsibility for repairs to the damaged vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Police are reminding livestock owners to properly secure animals to prevent similar early morning road hazards.
