By Breaking Belize News Staff: In a troubling turn of events, 37-year-old Akeem John Morgan, also known by the nicknames “John, John” and “Lee John,” has been missing for over a month while facing a gun-related charge in court. His cousin and surety, 37-year-old Nichole McDonald, expressed deep concern for his safety after he repeatedly failed to appear at court.
McDonald, who signed a $5,000 bail for Morgan, was summoned to court today to explain why the bail money should not be confiscated. She revealed that she has not seen Morgan since September, and despite receiving text messages from a Corozal police officer saying Morgan had been spotted about two weeks ago, his whereabouts remain unknown.
In an interview outside the court, McDonald claimed that her attempt to file a missing person report was denied by the Belize Police Department. She said a female sergeant informed her that she could not make the report without first locating Morgan’s address, despite her concerns for his safety. Morgan has been living between Hattieville and Cayo, according to McDonald.
Morgan’s legal troubles began in June 2022, when he was charged with the attempted murder of 31-year-old Dorian Garnett. Earlier this year, he was placed under McDonald’s supervision after being granted bail on a separate firearm-related offense. His failure to attend recent court hearings has raised alarms, with McDonald fearing that something bad may have happened to him.
