By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): A Belize City man accused of tampering with a gravesite and disturbing human remains has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before his case proceeds.
The accused, Jonathan Abner Flores, 33, appeared before a senior magistrate where multiple charges were read to him, including offenses related to disturbing a tomb and disinterment of a dead body.
During the hearing, the court determined that a psychiatric assessment would be necessary to evaluate Flores’ mental state.
Bail was offered in the sum of $1,500; however, relatives reportedly expressed concern for his safety and indicated it may be best if he remains in custody.
The case has been adjourned to May 4, 2026, while the court awaits the psychiatric report. Flores has since been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
Family members connected to the deceased woman whose grave was allegedly disturbed say they are hoping for closure as the matter moves through the court system.
