By Breaking Belize News Staff: The Court of Appeal has upheld a ruling against the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), finding it wrongfully terminated Misty Michael, its former Director of Marketing and Industry Relations.
Michael, hired on a three-year contract in April 2020, was dismissed in May 2021. The BTB cited financial strain from the COVID-19 pandemic, but the court found no evidence the organization was unable to pay her, noting it had BZ$10–12 million in reserves.
The appeal was dismissed unanimously, with the court ordering BTB to pay Michael BZ$217,822.18 in damages, plus interest and legal costs.
The court also confirmed her contract was valid and enforceable.
