By Breaking Belize News Staff: A mitigation plea was heard this week on behalf of Leon Lamb, who was convicted of raping a 30-year-old woman, as he awaits sentencing in the High Court.
Lamb, 31, who remains incarcerated at the Kolbe Foundation, appeared before Justice Nigel Pilgrim on Thursday, December 11, 2025. During the hearing, his attorney, Requena Moore, presented mitigation on his behalf and called two character witnesses—his sisters, Janine Lamb and Shereema Lamb.
After hearing submissions from the defense, Justice Pilgrim adjourned the matter to Thursday, December 18, 2025, when sentencing is expected to be handed down.
Lamb was found guilty of rape on Thursday, October 2, 2025, and was immediately remanded to the Belize Central Prison pending sentencing. The court heard that the offense occurred in September 2022, nearly three years ago.
At trial, evidence revealed that Lamb invaded a home in Belize City while pretending to be a police officer. The victim testified that Lamb, who was armed with a gun, grabbed her by the hair and forced her to perform oral sex in the presence of her roommate. The court was told that the attacker stated he wanted a woman to have sex with. Justice Pilgrim found the victim’s testimony to be credible and plausible.
Lamb denied the allegations and testified under oath in his own defense. He told the court that on the night of September 24, 2022, he attended a birthday party, became intoxicated, and could not remember how he got home. He claimed he woke up the next morning and went to work at his security company.
Lamb further alleged that later that morning he saw a police officer, ran to the back of his workplace, jumped a fence, and was subsequently chased and shot in the foot by police before being detained and taken to the hospital. He said police later searched his home and showed him a house they claimed he had broken into, which he denied knowing.
He also told the court that March 23, 2025, was the first time he saw the victim when she came to court to testify against him. Lamb stated that he could not recall where he was between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on the morning in question and denied ever having a gun or committing the offense.
