By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 70-year-old retiree accused by his wife of damaging her radio walked out of court a free man today after the Magistrate exercised discretion and dismissed the charge.
Lincoln Edmond Vaughan, a resident of Jasmine Street, Belize City, appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Ludlow Black where he was read a single charge of damage to property. The charge stemmed from an incident on April 23, 2025, in which Vaughan allegedly damaged a $50 black and grey radio belonging to his wife.
Vaughan pleaded guilty and offered a heartfelt explanation, saying, “Full respect sir, me and the lady have 7 children. She had me the up and down the street and we got into a fight.” He admitted to knocking the radio out of her hand during the dispute, noting that his blood pressure had spiked during the altercation.
Despite accepting the guilty plea, Magistrate Black chose to dismiss the charge under Section 59B, citing Vaughan’s age, his long-standing clean record since 1999, and the minor nature of the offense. Instead of imposing a fine or penalty, the Magistrate issued a stern warning, reminding Vaughan that “men with responsibility don’t fight over things but give respect.”
Vaughan, who saluted the court and expressed willingness to replace the radio, was released without penalty and reminded to be a mentor at his age, not a combatant.
The case was formally dismissed, and Vaughan was allowed to leave the courtroom a free man.
