Court adjourns bail and sentencing indication request for Jahreem ’32’ Staine

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Jahreem Staine, also known as “32,” remains on remand after the court adjourned his bid for bail and a sentencing indication in relation to three counts of contempt of judicial order.

Staine, a resident of Electric Avenue, Belize City, was escorted by GI3 officers to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday afternoon, where he appeared before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1 on two separate matters—three counts of contempt of judicial order and an attempted murder charge.

On the attempted murder matter, Staine and his co-accused Eric Fraser were provided with partial disclosure consisting of 28 pages of statements. That case was adjourned to March 26, 2026. Fraser remains on remand and unrepresented, while Staine is represented by attorney Norman Rodriguez. Both men are jointly charged with attempted murder stemming from a shooting on the south side of Belize City and are also due back in court for that matter on February 11, 2026.

Following the disclosure, Attorney Rodriguez sought to apply for bail on Staine’s behalf, arguing that no application has been made by the Crown to revoke Staine’s existing High Court bail in the attempted murder case. However, the application could not proceed, as the prosecutor with carriage of Staine’s contempt matters—Staff Prosecutor Stacey Smith—was not present in court.

In the alternative, Rodriguez requested a sentencing indication from the lower court should Staine decide to plead guilty to the three counts of contempt of judicial order. The Chief Magistrate declined to give a sentencing indication at that time, citing a prior commitment, and instead adjourned the matter to February 11, 2026. The court ordered that the prosecutor with carriage of the contempt matters be present on that date to address both the bail issue and the sentencing indication request.

In the meantime, Staine remains on remand at the Belize Central Prison.

Court records note that Staine previously sought a sentencing indication in December 2025 on a separate charge of promoting gang-related activity. After being told he faced a possible five-year prison sentence or a fine of up to $20,000, he opted to contest that charge at trial.
