By Aaron Humes: A sales delivery truck owned by Country Foods of Spanish Lookout was robbed on the Hummingbird Highway on Saturday.
According to police, one of three employees aboard the truck sustained multiple gunshot wounds and remains in critical condition, though stabilized; his colleagues managed to escape after initially being held up.
At around 8:20 p.m., the men were traveling, and as they approached a speed bump under construction at Mile 32 in St Margaret’s village, they saw a single cone in the middle of the road. The driver slowed down to pass it, and they heard a single gunshot and were accosted by two masked men exiting a vehicle parked on the side of the road.
The armed masked men demanded their money and removed them from the truck, searched them and robbed them of their belongings; they then demanded the key to the safe inside the vehicle, but none of them had it.
Police have reviewed available surveillance footage but have yet to turn up clues, and they have expanded the search as investigations continue.
