By Zoila Palma: The Belize Council of Churches expressed gratitude to God for “a democratic country where we have the right and freedom to vote. Many have sacrificed much for us to have such a privilege. It is not something to be taken for granted but rather exercised with care, honesty and integrity.”
The council urges everyone to pray for the Marc 12 general elections, the leaders and those that will be elected to office.
“We offer our prayers for the peace and safety of our nation, for our police and other security personnel, for poll workers at the various stations, and for all those involved in the election process at this time,” the council said.
“Our God and Redeemer, as the election approaches, and we seek to better understand the issues and concerns that are foremost in our country, we ask that you give us the guidance and discernment to respond as responsible citizens and people of faith in our communities.
Teach our people to rely on your strength and to accept their responsibilities to their fellow citizens. May we elect trustworthy leaders who hear your Word, live your love, keep in the ways of your truth, and make wise decisions for the well- being of our society that we may serve you faithfully in our generation and honor your holy name.
We pray knowing the God who loves all people will continue to guide us, our households, our houses of worship, our leaders, and our nation.
We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.”
