By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Costa Rica have further extended their lead over Belize in Friday night’s Concacaf Gold Cup Qualifier, now leading 6-0 after Josimar Alcocer found the back of the net in the second half at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan.
The visitors displayed their dominance from the outset. Manfred Ugalde scored the opener in the eighth minute, assisted by Alonzo Martinez, and then doubled Costa Rica’s lead in the 34th minute with a calmly executed penalty kick. Just two minutes later, Kenneth Vargas made it 3-0 with a powerful strike, giving Belize a steep hill to climb by halftime.
In the second half, Costa Rica continued to display their skill and precision. Jaylen Mitchell added a fourth goal in the 65th minute, followed by Alvaro Zamora’s spectacular backward header flip in the 70th minute to make it 5-0. Josimar Alcocer then drove home the sixth goal, leaving Belize struggling to contain the relentless attacks from the Central American powerhouse.
Costa Rica’s tactical sharpness and clinical finishing have emphasized the gap between the two sides.
As the match approaches its conclusion, Belize will look to take lessons from this encounter while Costa Rica enjoys a commanding position going back home for the return leg on Tuesday.
