A group of dedicated professionals from various disciplines in the Corozal district had its inception meeting one year ago to utilize their technical skills through the formation of a think tank aimed at identifying and developing projects and policy recommendations that will generate economic activity and ensure prosperity for the residents of the district.

The think tank, comprised of experts in fields such as business, finance, engineering, economics, agriculture, architecture, education, management, and environmental science, came together one year ago with the common goal of discussing, identifying, and securing funding for projects that will drive economic diversification and growth in the Corozal district.

With a focus on sustainable development, gender inclusion and community well-being, the think tank aims to leverage the diverse expertise of its members to identify and prioritize projects that will not only create economic opportunities but also contribute to the overall prosperity of the district. The Working Group has started revising and improving the Regional Economic Development Master Plan for the Corozal District with new and forward-looking initiatives that reflect today’s realities and the Government of Belize’s current priorities.

“We believe that by pooling our knowledge and resources, we can make a meaningful impact on the economic landscape of Corozal,” said Thea Garcia-Ramirez a founding member and chairperson of the think tank. Our goal is to identify and develop projects that will not only create jobs and economic activity but also ensure long-term prosperity for the residents of our district.”

The think tank has already begun discussions and implementation on projects, including infrastructure development, tourism initiatives, micro and small business support programs, agriculture and agribusiness projects, information technology and Global Digital Services training, and others. By collaborating with local stakeholders and seeking funding from both public and private sources, the group not only aims but has begun to turn these ideas and concepts into actionable projects that will benefit the entire community.

As the think tank continues to develop and implement its plans, it welcomes input and collaboration from other community members, organizations, and government agencies to ensure that its efforts align with the needs and priorities of the Corozal district with Belize’s Medium Term Development Strategy. Just today, two other interested professionals agreed to join the working group.
