Corozal man shot after responding to whistle

By Aaron Humes: A Corozal Town man remains hospitalized after being shot Saturday night.

Police responded to a shooting report and found Orlando Ivan Vasquez, 28, of Joseito Layout area suffering from two apparent gunshot injuries to the left side of the neck. The victim reported that about 7:45 p.m. he was inside his mother’s house at Joseito Layout when he heard someone whistle in front of the house. He then opened the front door and came out to see who it was.

As he opened the front door, a man who was standing by the gate pointed a firearm at him and fired several shots in his direction, causing the injuries. Orlando Vasquez then ran inside the house, and the shooter escaped.

Vasquez remains in stable condition at the Northern Regional Hospital, Orange Walk Town as police investigations continue.
