Corozal Bay Area Representative Elvia Vega Samos calls out members of her party following alleged assault

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: March is recognized globally as Women’s Month. The month is recognized to highlight the invaluable contributions that women make to our society and country and the importance of women in leadership positions and to advocate for the inclusion of women in leadership roles.

However, Corozal Bay Area Representative Elvia Vega Samos is calling out members of her own party, the PUP for allegedly assaulting her and her family.

“I was openly assaulted by an individual and my husband’s life was threatened. This was done by “individuals from my own party who are desperate for power.” It is unfortunate that my children had to experience this,” Vega Samos said.

“Women on the political battlefield should not be treated like this. I write this to inform so that if something were to happen to my husband, my kids or myself, the people of Corozal and Belize on a whole are aware of exactly what is happening,” Vega Samos added.

Vega Samos is 1 of only 4 elected women in the House of Representatives of Belize.

Elvia Vega–Samos is also the Minister of State in the Ministry of Human Development, Families and Indigenous Peoples‘ Affairs.
