By Breaking Belize News Staff: A police officer accused of the brutal double murder of his ex-mother-in-law and her twin brother in Hattieville returned to court on Tuesday, where he was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Twenty-five-year-old Orvin Justin Williams, the son of a retired police officer, appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 for the second time since being charged with the murders of 57-year-old Paula Belisle and her twin brother, 57-year-old Paul Esquillano. His case, ordinarily assigned to Court #3, was delayed due to the absence of that Magistrate. The matter has been adjourned to January 12, 2026, and Williams remains on remand until that date.

Williams was first arraigned on October 15, 2025, when he was read two counts of murder connected to the fatal shooting of the siblings on September 15.

Police reports state that around 2:00 p.m. on September 15, 2025, officers responded to information of gunfire on Ysaguirre Boulevard in Hattieville. Upon arrival, they encountered personnel assisting a critically injured Paula Belisle, who later succumbed to her injuries en route to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Her brother, Paul Esquillano, was discovered inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead later that afternoon.

Scenes of Crime personnel processed the area and recovered five 9mm expended shells. Investigators say the twins had been at a residence on Ysaguirre Boulevard when a gunman arrived in a vehicle, entered the property, and opened fire before fleeing.

Surveillance footage from the area led investigators to a rental vehicle believed to have been used in the crime. That vehicle was later found in Belize City and processed as evidence.

Williams was first detained on October 1, 2025, after police tracked him down two weeks following the murders. During a video-recorded interview conducted in the presence of his attorney, Leroy Bannee, he declined to answer questions. With insufficient evidence at the time, police released him on October 3 but continued their investigation.

On October 10, Williams was re-detained after police obtained new evidence and witness statements allegedly identifying him as the shooter. A second interview was conducted on October 11 with attorney Gilroy Usher present, but again Williams refused to answer questions. He was then formally charged with two counts of murder.

Williams comes from a well-known police family. In addition to being an officer himself, he has two brothers in the Belize Police Department—one a Sergeant and the other an Inspector attached to the Anti-Narcotic Unit. His father is also a former police officer.

Williams remains in custody as the case proceeds.
