By Breaking Belize News Staff: Convicted police officer Brigilio Ack, 39, has been returned to prison after the High Court rejected his appeal against a conviction for sexual assault, leaving him awaiting a new sentence that could be either lighter or more severe.
Ack had previously been granted bail of $12,000 on November 11, 2025, pending the outcome of his appeal. However, earlier this week Justice Nigel Pilgrim ruled against the appeal, affirming Ack’s conviction for sexual assault. The judge also set aside the original eight-month sentence imposed by the Magistrate’s Court and ordered that Ack be resentenced.
As a result, Ack’s bail was revoked and he was taken back into custody, where he will remain until April 14, 2026, when Justice Pilgrim is scheduled to deliver the new sentence.
Ack was initially convicted in August 2025 at the end of a trial in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court. The case involved the sexual assault of a female police officer, who testified in camera and told the court that Ack touched her inappropriately while they were working together at the Rocky Road Police Booth.
In September 2025, the sitting Senior Magistrate in Court #2 found Ack guilty and sentenced him to eight months’ imprisonment.
Ack, who has been represented throughout the proceedings by Attorney Rachel Montejo, later appealed the conviction in the High Court. While the court upheld the conviction, Justice Pilgrim determined that the original sentence should be reconsidered.
The court will now decide on April 14 whether Ack will receive a reduced sentence or a potentially longer prison term for the offense.
