By Aaron Humes: Businessman David Gonzalez, convicted of murder in November, is still awaiting sentencing after twice appearing in the High Court last week.
Justice Ricardo O’Neil Sandcroft convicted Gonzalez on November 10 of the murder of his wife, 28-year-old Marisela Gonzalez.
But on the scheduled date of sentencing, December 20, it was indicated that his Social Inquiry Report had not yet reached the court.
The SIR is prepared by a representative of the Community Rehabilitation Department who visits a convict, interviews them, and gathers information about their life and their period on remand prior to sentencing. It assists the trial judge in knowing more about the good character of the convict before he is sentenced.
The case was adjourned to December 21 and has since been further adjourned to January 11, 2024, after the court returns to work. Gonzalez is represented by Oscar Selgado.
Gonzalez denied killing his wife after a night out, but the prosecution established that they had argued and she was then shot, killed, and dumped at a nearby garbage site, her body being discovered days later.
One witness testified to Gonzalez confessing to him over the telephone that he committed the killing.
