Petra Rivera-Rideau and Vanessa Díaz join Krystal Santana and Julito Gastón (Los sobrinos) for a conversation about P FKN R. Bad Bunny y la música como un acto de resistencia, the translation of P FKN R: How Bad Bunny Became the Global Voice of Puerto Rican Resistance. Translated by Aurora Lauzardo Ugarte, the Spanish language edition was published by Ediciones Planeta in January 2026.
On June 1, at 7:00pm (CEST): Petra Rivera-Rideau and Vanessa Díaz, authors of P FKN R, are joined by Los sobrinos for an in-person discussion at Espacio Fundación Telefónica, located at 3 Fuencarral Street, Madrid, Spain.
Description: In this event, Vanessa Díaz and Petra R. Rivera-Rideau will share insights into the work that led to P FKN R, an essay that examines Bad Bunny not only as a global music icon, but also as a reflection of the various forms of resistance present in contemporary Puerto Rican society. Through his music, aesthetics, and public discourse, the book offers a rigorous yet accessible analysis of the tensions between culture, identity, colonialism, and power.
The event will bring together authors Vanessa and Petra, along with Krystal and Julito, in a conversation that will open a space for reflection on popular music as a political tool, the emergence of global cultural touchstones from the Global South, and the role of reggaeton and new Latin music in redefining the contemporary cultural landscape.
The discussion will also address Bad Bunny’s cultural reach and his connection to a historical tradition of protest and celebration in Puerto Rico, as well as how his work engages in a constant dialogue with issues of race, gender, and belonging. This is a unique opportunity to approach, from a critical and contextualized perspective, one of the most significant cultural phenomena of our time.

Later, you may also enjoy this event again through our media library: mediateca.
Book Description: “Aquí mataron gente por sacar la bandera / Por eso es que ahora yo la llevo donde quiera.” (Here they killed people for taking out the flag / that’s why I bring it anywhere I want now.)—LA MuDANZA
Global superstar Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, like many other Puerto Ricans, has lived a life marked by public crises—blackouts, hurricanes, political corruption and oppression, among others—that have exposed the ongoing impacts of colonialism in Puerto Rico. Offering a portrait of the past and future of Puerto Rican resistance through one of its loudest and proudest voices, P FKN R draws on interviews with musicians, politicians, and journalists as well as ethnographic research to set Bad Bunny and Puerto Rican resistance in a historical, political, and cultural context. Authors Vanessa Díaz and Petra Rivera-Rideau—creators of the “Bad Bunny Syllabus”—demonstrate Bad Bunny’s place in a long tradition of infusing both joy and protest into music and honor the many evolving forms of daily resistance to oppression and colonialism that are part of Puerto Rican life.
