Consumer prices up 0.7% in February 2026: Food and electricity costs rise, fuel declines

By Zoila Palma:  Consumer prices in Belize increased by 0.7 percent in February 2026, driven primarily by higher costs for food, electricity and other key services, according to the latest data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB).

SIB reported that the All-Items Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 120.6 in February 2026, up from 119.8 in February 2025, reflecting the overall increase in the cost of goods and services across the country.

The rise in inflation was largely attributed to higher prices in several major categories, including Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels, and Restaurants and Accommodation Services.

“These were partly offset by a decline in the ‘Transport’ category during the period,” the SIB noted.

This was due to lower cost in fuel.

“Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices declined slightly, with the average cost of a 100-pound cylinder down by $1.30, from $128.37 in February 2025 to $127.07 in February 2026,” SIB noted.
