Consumer Prices rise by 1.0% in May, driven by costlier beverages and select foods

By Zoila Palma:  The latest data released by the Statistical Institute of Belize shows that consumer prices increased by 1.0% in May 2025, compared to the same month last year.

The uptick was largely fueled by higher prices in the ‘Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages’ category, which recorded a 2.0% inflation rate.

Food prices rose by 0.9%, mainly due to increased costs for cereal products and fruits.

Bread and bakery goods were up by 2.5%, while fruit prices saw a significant jump of 7.8%, with notable increases in limes, oranges, and pineapples.

However, the price of vegetables declined overall, dropping by 4.7%.

This decrease was led by lower prices for items like tomatoes and cilantro.
