By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🇸🇷 Suriname shocked El Salvador 2–1 at Estadio Cuscatlán on Monday night, ending a 57-year winless streak against the Central American side in Concacaf World Cup Qualifying.

Dutch-born defender Radinio Balker opened the scoring in the 12th minute, rising above the defense to head home a corner. El Salvador appeared to equalize through Brayan Gil in the 29th, but the goal was overturned a VAR review for offside.

The hosts finally drew level in the 73rd minute via an own goal from Suriname’s Anfernee Dijksteel. But the visitors weren’t done—midfielder Dhoraso Klas rifled in the winner in the 81st minute, sealing Suriname’s first victory over El Salvador since 1968.

The win propels Suriname to the top of Group A with four points from two matches. El Salvador, who had opened with a win, now sit second with three points.

Monday’s other match saw Panama and Guatemala draw 1–1 in Panama City, leaving both teams still searching for their first win. With four rounds remaining, Suriname’s early momentum could prove decisive in a tightly contested group.
